OUR MISSION
It is the mission of Light Bearers to assist the world church in hastening the glorious coming of Jesus Christ by helping to execute His mandate to proclaim the gospel to all the world.
Light Bearers is a supporting ministry of the church, holding ASI membership, OCI membership and non-profit status. To carry forth its mission, Light Bearers employs two primary mediums of communication: publishing and preaching. As a publisher, it is our goal to create and make available truth-filled evangelistic literature, taking special interest in the needs of the church in third-world nations by providing for their literature needs free of charge. The preaching aspect of our ministry includes edification seminars for the growth of church members, evangelistic seminars for the general public, television programming and radio.
All projects and endeavors of Light Bearers are funded by the generous giving of those who share our passion for the salvation of souls and are impressed to support our mission.

WHO WE ARE
Light Bearers is an evangelistic and edification ministry, reaching out to the world with the gospel of Christ and promoting revival and spiritual growth within the body of Christ. To carry forth this mission we employ four media:
1. Publishing. We operate a missionary publishing house devoted to producing gospel literature for the most needy and receptive population groups of our world free of charge.
2. Evangelistic and Spiritual Growth Seminars. Light Bearers employs teacher-evangelists who conduct seminars for the winning of souls to Christ and for the edifying of the body of Christ. You may schedule a seminar here online or by phone, mail or email.
3. Television and Radio. James and Ty record a discussion format Bible teaching TV and Radio program called Books of the Book, and a health education program called Health Nugget, hosted by Risë Rafferty, which may be viewed on 3ABN television and heard on 3ABN radio and other stations. Check our airing schedule here online.
4. A Resource Center. Light Bearers is a rich source of literature, audio and video materials for sharing with others and nurturing your own spiritual development.

FINANCIAL PRINCIPLES
We believe that the manner in which an organization handles the financial means given by its supporters in good trust is a reflection of the basic character of that organization. When individuals give of their financial blessings to a ministry, they do so with the hope that their gifts will be maximized to have the greatest influence for the salvation of souls.
Every dollar we receive is ultimately the Lord's. We are stewards willingly bound by the strictest standards of financial integrity. Therefore, we have chosen to commit ourselves to use your contributions conservatively, prayerfully and with total accountability. We will issue a receipt for all gifts to the ministry, which are tax deductible. We will provide financial accountability to our Board of Directors, which will always include members who have no vested interest in the ministry. We will strive to plan and operate in such a manner as to be efficient, but not extravagant, and without unnecessary debt.
Light Bearers will be audited at least every two years by an outside auditor with no vested interest in the ministry. We will not resort to questionable methods of fund raising or to high-pressure appeals or emotional pleas. We will simply inform you of our projects and needs and leave the results with God, not failing to express our appreciation.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
The primary task of Light Bearers is to spread truth-filled literature around the world like the leaves of autumn as fast as possible, to as many people as possible, absolutely free. To carry forth this mission we operate an extremely efficient and economical printing facility with the present capacity to produce and ship nearly 2 million tracts per week, at less than four cents each. Without question this is the most cost-effective means of placing the gospel within the reach of the masses. This is a ministry into which you may invest your soul-winning dollars with major effect, knowing that your resources are touching the most lives possible. For a monthly gift of $25 you can enable Light Bearers to print and ship 6,250 pieces of gospel literature, which means the potential to reach 6,250 precious souls for your Savior. For $50 each month you can put into circulation 12,500 publications. $100 will produce 25,000. $500 will produce 250,000. And $1000 may reach as many as 25,000 people for Christ. Do the math on whatever amount you can give, and you will see that your money can be put to no better use. All donations to Light Bearers are tax deductible.

"When the Holy Spirit powerfully works, the lay people commit their resources, funds, time and energy to God's work. Light Bearers Ministry is composed of a group of lay people who have dedicated their energies to producing top quality, inexpensive Christian literature to share Jesus love and His last-day message with the world. Light Bearers has demonstrated both an integrity and faithfulness to the organized church body. Personally, I cheer on this soul-winning ministry may their tribe increase."

"We are pleased to commend Light Bearers Ministry. Working in close cooperation with the organized church, Light Bearers is making a significant contribution to the outreach of the Adventist message. Their publishing ministry provides truth-filled literature in large quantities, which is a special blessing in many of the less developed parts of the world."

"Light Bearers represents some of the best the Church has to offer. James Rafferty and Ty Gibson present not only a balanced Christ-centered gospel, but they have a clear understanding of all our distinctive doctrines. I would recommend them for churches, camp meetings and evangelistic seminars. They are being used by the Lord."

"It is a joy to be associated with Ty Gibson and James Rafferty and Light Bearers Ministry. They are a welcome addition to the mission of our church in Upper Columbia. The fruits of their labors are a result of the blessing of the Lord. A sincere vote of appreciation to our friends at Light Bearers Ministry for once again so generously teaming with us as we share the gospel around the world. We cannot calculate the price of the literature provided, much less can we estimate the value of the souls saved both of which will only be fully realized in heaven. We anticipate that reality with increasing enthusiasm."

"I can think of no ministry that I would rather provide funds to and expect more results from than Light Bearers Ministry.
For 18 years as a missionary in Africa and Asia, even though I was Director of Personal Ministries and The Voice of Prophecy, my greatest frustration was, How can I provide these members who long to share lessons and tracts about Jesus with others but have no money to buy them how can I find money to print enough for our needs? At best we could provide only a minimum. But Light Bearers provides containers filled with the message of Jesus. When I, on my knees, wrote a Bible course for Tanzania in 1969, there was no money to print it. A blind colporteur in Holland sent me enough to print a few. How thrilled beyond belief I was when Light Bearers had 120,000 sets of that 34-lesson, updated course in the hands of the membership months before a large satellite campaign. One half of the membership of some 250,000 gave personal Bible studies so that 15,000 graduated in one town the first night of the campaign. Unbelievable! I could go on and on. As Associate Director of World Discover Bible Schools for The Voice of Prophecy, I have been and continue to work with them in providing VOP and other lessons to many countries. I could not be more pleased. It is delightful to associate with this dedicated and self-sacrificing group. I don't know of any organization that gets more out of donated money than they do. They have my 100% approval and support. Today the needs and potential is unlimited. Any funds you can provide Light Bearers Ministry will be greatly appreciated and will be used to the full to help produce strong members who know what they believe because they have not only been baptized at a campaign but they have studied material and will continue to study it. They will also use the lessons and tracts provided by Light Bearers Ministry to reach out to others."

"Riverside Farm deeply appreciates the effort that Light Bearers puts forth to send out containers filled with literature. Lay evangelists from all over Zambia come to get the free literature in English and local languages. The tracts, pamphlets and books are distributed freely. In dozens of evangelistic series across Zambia, the material is given away. Hundreds of baptismal classes are conducted using this literature. The laity and pastors of the Union look forward to the arrival of containers at Riverside. In addition to this wide distribution, Riverside's Bible workers and staff utilize the literature. Of the over 1,000 people baptized every year through Riverside's workers, many of them have been convicted, instructed and strengthened by these tracts. The Bible workers who are supported by Riverside use the literature in their work. They use it to begin Bible studies, to arouse interest and to help the church members in their personal growth. Literature is scarce in Zambia, and many, from a variety of backgrounds, are eager to read and study. Roy Habasimbi is one of our workers. He recently told me that since December, he has gathered a group of 50 people who are studying. This group initially formed due to the spreading of literature. Kelvin Kangale reported that in a village evangelistic series, they ran out of literature. Except, that is, for the tract Sabbath Rest. People became disappointed at the lack of materials, and many stopped coming. Three days before the meetings ended, a man came asking for literature. Kelvin gave him one of the tracts. Soon after that Kelvin left the area. On a return visit he was amazed to find the church full to capacity. It turns out that the man was convicted about the Sabbath truth. He started going to church and encouraging others to do so as well. Kelvin gave him the series of Daniel studies, and he is now awaiting baptism. Kelvin uses literature extensively, and in 2003, had 147 baptized. Enock Chitalu uses literature in pre-campaign work. He spreads it through an area weeks before his evangelistic work. He finds that when the meetings open, there is less doctrinal confusion due to the work of the silent messengers."

"Our first contact with Light Bearers Ministry was through a weekend seminar conducted at our local church by Ty Gibson. Our hearts thrilled at the clear, balanced gospel of God's love for the human family that Ty shared that weekend. As we became better acquainted with other seminar speakers and attended the annual camp meetings at Malo, Washington, we have found great inspiration in our walk with the Lord. We are amazed at God's continued blessing of Light Bearers publishing work; such an efficient use of funds to send precious truth around the world to hasten the spread of the gospel and our Lord's return. Our church has benefited personally in that we have been freely given thousands of pieces of Spanish literature to use in our annual mission trips to Mexico. We believe Light Bearers Ministry is on the cutting edge of Adventism; both in presenting Christ-centered sermons to hungering searchers for truth, and in aggressive literature evangelism that will influence untold millions toward God's kingdom."

"In my travels through Africa, I have discovered that LBM has reached into virtually every dark corner of the continent. Africans are starving for Christian literature in their own language. They can't seem to get enough of it. Long lines form whenever gospel literature is offered. Each person eager to lay their hands on the Bread of Life. LBM is on the supply end of this line. Multitudes of God's redeemed children from Africa will one day trace their conversion back to some pamphlet, book, or tract that was printed on LBM presses and sent to them."

"Work of Light Bearers Ministry is beyond belief."
OUR HISTORY
Light Bearers began in the mid 1980's as the "spontaneous combustion" of God's truth flowing through the hearts of two young men newly converted to the claims of Christ. With no intentions to start an "organized ministry," James Rafferty and Ty Gibson became friends in the study of God's Word and began sharing what they were learning with anyone who would listen. Others who were excited to explore Bible truth extended invitations for James and Ty to hold weekly studies in their homes, to which friends and family were invited. Some began recording the messages. Duplicates were made and sent to eager listeners outside of the local area. Phone calls came requesting that such Bible studies be brought to other towns and cities. As the taped messages made their way around the United States and to other countries, invitations to conduct local seminars multiplied until nearly every weekend was scheduled months in advance. It became evident that James and Ty must either pursue ministry as a full time devotion or say no to the consistent stream of invitations. Increasingly convicted that God was calling them to proclaim the gospel wherever the doors would open, they decided to launch out by faith, quit their jobs and give their time and energy to what quickly grew into a worldwide work. A teaching ministry was born in response to an intense hunger for clear Bible teaching.
Publishing was the next phase of development. James and Ty began to prepare written studies to share with those attending their seminars, with no specific intention to become publishers. An Apple Macintosh computer and a copy machine were the first tools of choice sufficient for the simple task of putting together a few hundred study guides every now and then. But it soon became evident that literature is an extremely powerful medium for communicating truth. It remains for personal study long after the spoken word has ceased and the preacher has left town. With much prayer and the reckless zeal of a youthful faith, an old garlic-drying shed on a piece of property in northeastern Washington was converted into a small print shop. The first press was purchased in 1987, a small AB Dick, sufficient to get the new venture off the ground. At first the fledgling enterprise planned to produce hundreds of tracts and booklets, maybe even thousands. The goal seemed enormous. And yet those plans were small compared to what God obviously had in mind.
With a growth so rapid it bears the marks of divine providence, the 20' x 30' garlic shed received a 30' x 30' addition. In a matter of months the new building was filled with publishing equipment beyond workable capacity. A vision began to take shape of a missionary publishing house committed to the task of flooding entire nations with gospel literature. Truth-filled publications were now beginning to flow out to distant lands, first to Africa, then to countries in Central and South America, then to eastern European nations. The response was overwhelming comparable to starving children begging for more once they have gotten a taste of the food vital to their survival. What must be done was obvious. A full-scale publishing house must be built to replace the small print shop. The idea of hundreds and maybe thousands of publications must be cast aside for thinking in terms of multiplied millions. The matter was committed to the Lord in prayer. Out of nowhere but God's direct leading a man was impressed to give all the money for the building project. Able carpenters stepped forward to the job. The walls were erected in the fall of 1990 and Light Bearers Publishing Ministry moved into the new facility during the spring of 1991. People of God with compassion for lost souls rushed forward to support the bold new vision. Costly equipment was purchased outright, debt-free. God's direct leading was clear. He had created a publishing work that would soon touch literally millions of lives for Christ.
A simple pattern of action emerged to be repeated
over and over again:
1. Target a needy country with believers on location ready to receive and freely distribute gospel publications to the masses.
2. Fill a semi-truck container with between 2 and 4 million pieces of literature.
3. Truck that container to the ocean and put it on a shipping barge to reach its destination in 30 to 45 days.
The financial formula was just as simple: charge nothing! Since the countries targeted were those with third world economies, to place a price on the literature would place it out of reach to those most eager to receive it. Therefore, the precious cargo must be produced and delivered into the hands of the needy masses absolutely free. To make this "impossible" business plan possible, large-hearted and benevolent members of the body of Christ have provided a steady supply of financial resources. As a result over 350 million pieces of gospel literature in more that 30 languages have been put into the hands of men, women and children for whom Jesus gave His dear life.
